Fall Fashion 2022 Snap Shot

I was reflecting the other day, when viewing the Fall collections from the top designers, that as usual the clothes while fun in design, are so impractical for most peoples lives. Could one really run after a toddler in that huge dress and those shoes, how about cook a meal with that much fabric, just in the sleeve?! Even sitting at a desk, would become a challenge in many of the styles. But, oh, what fun, if you are one of those top designers and you can just play and then sit back and watch what ready to wear fashion makes of all of it, for the rest of us!

So, what is in it for us? Reading the pages of the fashion wise they would have us believe that only wide leg or flared pants are in and skinnies are a thing of the past. But, I’m here to say, that there are still plenty of skinnies around, high and low rise. I’m ready to take on wide leg, high waisted pants and I do love pants with a flared cut. The fun thing about the flare, this season, is that they are being made in many different widths, (and lengths) so depending on your height you can find the flare that is just right for you. Hint: The taller you are, the bigger the flare, the shorter you are, the smaller the flare.

For wide cut pants the emphasis is on comfort. The waistline is high, elastic in the back and often a soft sash to tie in the front. The pants are truly wide, taking the line from hip straight down, which creates a wide leg. This look is in response to people wanting comfortable pants, from days spent at home during the pandemic. These pants look best with a more snug top. A blazer can be thrown over.

For skirts, pleats are firmly in; small neat pleats. For fall look for warmer fabrics in fun plaids or solids and all three traditional lengths are available.

Oversized blazers and plaid is everywhere. I’d caution on the oversized blazers if you are petite, because they really are over sized. Your choice of matchy-matchy plaid or mix and match i.e. either all plaid or a mix of plaids and solids. Go plaid casual, with plaid shirts or very classic with plaid tailored pants and blazers.

When it comes to shoes there are plenty of styles to choose from. Some examples are ballet flats, Mary Jane’s and Mary Jane platforms. Boots range from motorbike style to up over the knee style, with many heel sizes to suit.

As always, the most important thing for you, is how you want to look, regardless of what the designers say is in. Nothing says style, quite like a women who dresses to please herself.

Thanks so much for reading!
