Slow Fashion....

Cruelty free, green, eco friendly, fair trade, locally made... Almost all of my clients want to know how to be more ecologically minded when it comes to fashion.   A great way is simply to buy used clothing.  But, I know it's not for everyone.  And, that's okay because more and more designers and clothing manufactures are embracing "green" when it comes to clothing. One of the most well know names in eco friendly design is Stella McCartney and although I don't always care for McCartney's designs, I always agree with her sensibilities when it comes to being eco friendly and cruelty free.  However, not all of us can afford designer price tags.

So, I did some sleuthing around and came up with a list of eco friendly designers (more mom and pop places) on line. They all embrace some sort of fair trade, and/or sustainable fabric, recycled fabric, organic fabric, etc., business model.  SO, without further ado and in no particular order:

Women's clothing

Synergy Organic Clothing -www.synergyclothing.com - causal women's clothing.

u love green - www.ulovegreen.com - a bit limited and I would cut off some of the ribbons :-)

Jewelry

GoLDFABRIK -www.goldfabrik.nl- this one is out of the Netherlands and a bit pricey since you would be paying in Euro's, but their pieces are lovely and so is there philosophy. (Try as I might, I just couldn't get this link to work from my blog, so if you have trouble just pop it into google)

P.R.A.Y. - www.purerockangelyogi.com -  like the name, the pieces are funky, earthy and unique.

Sunglasses

Woodzee - www.woodzee.com- if you don't like plastic, these sunglasses could be for you!

Handbags

Gunas - www.gunasthebrand.com - I love the name of the company, Gunas, as I have a special relationship to the Hindu teaching of the 3 Gunas, and I think I could have a special relationship to these bags that are cruelty free!

This is just a small slice of what is out there and the choices are becoming greater all the time.  As with organic food there is money to be made in the eco friendly world of fashion, so luckily for us and our environment, I can only see this sector growing.
